I’m Sophie Matters (hence the name, Travel Matters), a 21-year-old who is lucky enough to call the beautiful Gold Coast, Australia home. I haven’t been everywhere, but I hopefully will soon enough – that’s the plan anyway!
So why travel blogging?
I graduated from school 4 years ago, tried the whole university thing and after two years of studying a Bachelor of Communications degree in Literature along with many other journalism, language and film subjects, I just had to put it on hold. It really wasn’t for me and I felt as though I was wasting my time (and money). After travelling to Japan for three weeks with my boyfriend and coming home to find that the travel bug had bitten me hard, I knew I wanted to pursue a life of travel in any way possible.Travelling obviously is something I absolutely love – from planning, seeking inspiration, taking photographs, exploring… it’s my passion. So, what better way to combine my love of travel, photography and writing then by starting a travel blog!?
What is the future looking like?
Right now I’m just working a Monday to Friday job in customer service & admin, and beginning to try and save for a bigger trip next year. If you have any great saving tips, hit me up; I tend to splurge on food and drinks as I have no self control *cries*. I’m hoping to live and work in Europe sometime in the future, all while hoping around the continent exploring! So far for 2017, I will be road-tripping around New Zealand’s South Island for 10 days in October and visiting South Australia sometime soon. If you have any tips or recommendations, hit me up.
Favourite + dream destinations:
My far, the stand out destinations I’ve visited are Japan, Myanmar and New Zealand. After visiting Japan three times already, I still have a strong urge to go back again! It is a beautiful, clean, friendly and safe country full of great food and culture! As for New Zealand, just look at some of my photos and blog posts and I can nearly guarantee you will want to get on a plane, grab your hiking boots and immerse yourself in one of the most stunning countries in the world. Myanmar was unlike any place I’ve been before; a land filled with kind people, the best sunrises and sunsets and delicious food. I highly suggest you get there ASAP before everyone else catches on.
As for my bucket list destinations, I am dying to go to Canada, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Jordan, Egypt, everywhere in South America, Antarctica and basically all over Europe, too! Send me your recommendations!
If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact me as I love talking to fellow travel obsessed people. Meanwhile, follow along on Travel Matters to see where I’ve been, where I am going and hopefully I can inspire you with my words and photographs!
